about the project.
This is a short film I created using Unreal Engine. The film was as an addition to my Bronze Medal Competition submission, held by RIBA Architecture organisation annually to celebrate the best student work in every accredited British and International University. The core concept of the film is to celebrate the untouched beauty of the Lake District, and to convey my Architectural proposition for the area. The film aims to juxtapose the sublime nature of the landscape with the harsh industrial design of the new creative campus. You can find the full project

modelling the lake district
For this project, I modelled the new Learning Centre building proposal, the surrounding buildings on the site, the site itself, as well as a number of other assets for the different scenes. The building itself, was used in the Architectural design software: Rhino 3D. The site and other miscellaneous assets were modelled in Blender 3D, using a combination of hard modelling and soft modelling techniques. Textures and Lighting was then later applied in Unreal Engine 5. I used a combination of my own textures as well as textures found on the Quixel Megascan library to render the scene of Fell Foot in Windermere in virtual 3D space.
capturing the lake district
When it came to constructing the narrative of the short film, it was important that I prioritised showcasing the design proposal first and foremost. After that, it was a case of capturing the unique natural majesty of the area. Lighting was a key tool here, showing the still reflections of lake Windermere, aswell as the organic shadows made by the surrounding natural environment and forestry. Finally, the ever changing weather is one of the defining hallmarks of the Lake District, and indeed Britain as a nation, and I wanted to capture that in the final portion of the film, and celebrate how the new building would adapt to the changing seasons.
